Pacific Rising: The Emergence of a New World Culture
Published in Paperback by Touchstone Books (July, 1992)
Average review score:

somewhat dated (in 1999), but otherwise superb overviewI first read PACIFIC RISING in 1991, the year of publication and felt it was the absolute best overview of the Pacific I'd ever read. I'm not sure I've changed my mind, despite the intervening years. Mr Winchester, who lived in Hong Kong, connects Peru with Indonesia; Korea with Seattle; Guam with Panama. The book is filled with anecdotes and factoids, all of them interesting and worth knowing, but he never loses an academic focus. This is an absolute must for anyone who wants to understand what "the Pacific" is all about.

Small World
Published in Hardcover by Dewi Lewis Pub (July, 1995)
Average review score:

Excellent real life photosThese photos capture exactly what it feels like to be a tourist at many places around the world. These aren't beautiful scenery or architectural portraits, but photos of real people acting and feeling like tourists in touristy places. Sometimes funny and ironic, sometimes depressing. The Great Pyramids with people posing in front of them, surrounded by local sellers of miniature trinkets. The leaning Tower of Pisa, with lots of tourists all doing the same schtick. I don't recommend this if you are looking for nice photos of world attractions. But I recommend it very highly if you are looking for photos of real people doing real things, acting themselves. Or if you want photos of what it's really like to be a tourist. Martin Parr has a couple other books out there - The Last Resort is also an excellent collection of real people photos of New Brighton.

Winchester Affidavit
Published in Mass Market Paperback by Leisure Books (November, 2002)
Average review score:

FROM MYTHICAL GUNSLINGER TO HOLLYWOOD MISINTERPRETATIONWinchester Affidavit is an epic historical novel filled with passion, romance and suspense as G. G. Boyer takes the reader back to the days of the New Mexico Territory and the Amarillo War. The Amarillo Grant was a vast estate owned by a Dutch financier. The estate manager, Lord Ransom, must make good his position -- he's engaged to the owner's daughter. To that end his segundo leads a group of night riders known as the Whitecaps, who use murder and mayhem to clear the grant of "squatters". These include native peoples, homesteaders, and Anglo ranchers, the largest of which is Cleve Bandelier, Former cavalry officer and widowed father of two, Bandelier leads the group that the Dutch syndicate would dispossess in a battle against corruption, terrorism, and brute force. G. G. Boyer's Winchester Affidavit demonstrates a story-telling talent reminiscent of such masters of the Old West as Zane Grey, Max Brand, and Louis Lamour. BY MIDWEST BOOK REVIEW

Winchester Book

Average review score:

Before buying an older WINCHESTER, buy this book!Whether you intend to buy 1 or 1000 Winchesters, you need this book in order to determine the correctness and originality of the Winchester you are thinking of buying. George Madis has done a remarkable, exhaustive job of presenting each model, its characteristics, variations, special order features, improvements progression, dimensions, historical background, predecessor models, and other pertinences to help you to know what you are buying. At the end of each model/chapter are a list of the serial numbers produced each year, the total number produced and the rarity of special features as well as standard features. Following the guns themselves, are chapters on sights (standard and special order), and special order features, barrel lengths, finishes, engraving and calibers. There is even a chapter on Winchester pistols. All in all, it is still the best, most comprehensive study of this most important manufacturer's longarms which were used to forge our civilization from the raw, wild, unexplored country our forebears faced in the last half of the 19th century.

Winchester lever legacy
Published in Unknown Binding by Buffalo Press ()
Average review score:

Most thorough reference of shooting and owning winchestersThis is one of the best references available for the practical shooter of Winchester lever guns. Based on practical experiance and not scientific supposition, the information provided is both useful and fresh. It certainly improves greatly on the work of other gunwriters who base knowledge on others experiance and what they get from the firerarms industry. Mr. Williamson gains his knowledge by practical experimentation , the same way our forefathers learned to load and shoot the old Winchesters
